Cylinder storage, Handling & Accessories

Cylinders should always be stored:
  • Vertically
  • In a well ventilated area
  • Under shade
  • Below 30oC
  • As per guidelines from explosives Dept. (PESO)

Use only Following standard Accessories

1/2" BSP Pressure Regulating valve

1/2" BSP-L Brass Adaptor For High Concentration EO valve

DON'T (Warning Gas Cylinder Rules, 1981)

  1. Do not change the color code of the cylinder.
  2. Cylinder should not be refilled with any other gas.
  3. Do not use any inflammable solvent on the valve or other fittings of the cylinder.
  4. No flammable materials should be stored in the immediate vicinity of this cylinder or in the same room in which it is kept.
  5. Do not change the valve.
  1. No oil or similar lubricant should be used on the valve or other fitting of this cylinder.
  2. Do not operate the valve without removing security nut.
  3. Open very slowly and shut the valve after use.
  4. Do not over tighten the Carbon di-oxide valve and Ethylene Oxide valve.
  5. Do not bump or drag the cylinder
  6. Do not dispatch the cylinder without security nut & cap.

Emergency First Aid Procedure

  1. Eye exposure: If EO gets into your eyes, wash your eyes immediately with large amounts of water, lifting the lower and upper eyelids. Get medical attention immediately. Contact lenses should not be worn when working with Ethylene oxide.
  2. Skin Exposure: If EO gets into your skin, immediately wash the contaminated skin with water. If EO soaks through your clothing, especially your shoes, remove the clothing immediately and wash the skin with water using an emergency deluge. Shower. Get medical attention immediately. Thoroughly wash contaminated clothing before reusing. Contaminated leather shoes or leather articles should not be reused and should be discarded.
  3. Inhalation: If large amounts of EO are inhaled, the exposed person should move to fresh air at once. If breathing has stopped, perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, keep the affected person warm and at rest. Get medical attention immediately.
  4. Swallowing: When EO has been swallowed, give the person large quantity of water immediately. After the water has been swallowed, try to get the person to vomit by having him or her touch the back of the throat with his or her finger. Do not make unconscious person to vomit. Get medical attention immediately.
  5. Rescue: Move the affected person from hazardous exposure. If the exposed person has been overcome, attempt rescue only after notifying at least one other person of the emergency and putting into effect established emergency procedures. Do not become a casualty yourself. Understand and follow your emergency rescue procedures. Acquaint yourself with the location of the emergency equipment before the need arises.
